Melbourne Design Week
Melbourne Design Week is Australia’s largest annual design event, celebrating creativity, innovation, and design thinking across architecture, product design, fashion, digital media, and urban planning. Presented by the Victorian Government through the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), the festival brings together designers, studios, institutions, and industry leaders.
The program features exhibitions, installations, talks, workshops, studio open days, panel discussions, and design showcases across Melbourne and regional Victoria. Participants explore themes such as sustainability, circular design, urban futures, material innovation, and cultural design practice.
Melbourne Design Week is known for activating the entire city, with galleries, universities, design studios, public spaces, and commercial venues hosting events. It provides a platform for both established and emerging designers to present new work and engage with global design conversations.
A key focus of the festival is sustainability and responsible design practice, encouraging innovation that addresses environmental and social challenges. The event also supports collaboration between creative industries, research institutions, and commercial sectors.
The festival plays an important role in strengthening Melbourne’s reputation as a leading design capital in the Asia-Pacific region and contributes significantly to Australia’s creative economy.
