Melbourne Music Week (MMW) is a citywide festival celebrating Melbourne’s contemporary music scene through live performances, pop-up gigs, industry events, and unique music experiences across the CBD and surrounding precincts.
Organised by the City of Melbourne, the festival activates unusual and iconic city spaces including rooftops, laneways, heritage buildings, car parks, and cultural venues. The program features a mix of established Australian acts, emerging artists, DJs, experimental musicians, and interdisciplinary performances.
MMW also includes industry-focused programming such as panel discussions, networking events, workshops, and forums exploring the future of music, technology, and live performance. These events support Melbourne’s reputation as a UNESCO City of Music and strengthen its creative economy.
The festival encourages innovation in live music presentation, often featuring one-off performances and specially commissioned collaborations that cannot be seen elsewhere. It also supports grassroots music culture and provides opportunities for emerging artists to reach new audiences.
MMW plays an important role in promoting Melbourne’s identity as a global live music capital and supporting the sustainability of its music ecosystem.
